Description

I lucked out in Grand Prairie, Texas (between Dallas and Fort Worth) and had clear skies for eclipse. Well for the most part, there were varying degrees of cloud cover for the partial phases before and after. But the clouds vanished a few minutes before totality began with one little cloudy coming close toward the end. But I was able to capture all the images I wanted for this event.

This is a HDR image made in Photoshop 2024  from 1/1000 , 1/640, 1/500, 1/250, 1/125, 1/64, 1/25s exposures with my trusty old Nikon D5100 and the Sharpstar 61EDPHii without the reducer (335mm FL, f/5.5). Mounted on a heavy duty Bogan tripod and geared tripod head(off Amazon). Amazingly, that setup worked out well. I used the ball head of the tripod to "polar align" roughly and really just had one knob to turn once in awhile to center the Sun.

I made a last minute decision a couple days prior to use BackyardNikon to capture and focus and that was a great combo instead of going off the back off the camera.
